T-1…

Tomorrow we leave our car at friends Smith and Claude, then lug three heavy bags down to the Nice airport. We hop over to London and prepare ourselves for a 15 hour flight to Santiago, Chile for the first of many challenges over the next two months.

Our goal, bike the tandem from Puerto Montt, Chile to Ushuaia, Argentina:

The first 1200km will follow the Carretera Austral route in Chile to the border with Argentina, then cross and continue down to Tierra del Fuego. It’s currently “summer“ down there but we expect often to see four seasons one day…

The last few days have been hectic with packing the tandem and all the gear into three bags, plus the joy of discovering last minute needed bike maintenance when breaking it down…

Only a few F-bombs were dropped in the filming of this packing exercise:

Tandem frame in pieces
Almost there!
Ready to dish out hernias and compressed spinal disks to unsuspecting baggage handlers!

With any luck, our rig will look like this in a few days, all 52kg of it!

Prochaine étape, Puerto Montt. A bientôt!
